The Story of Rosie | |
I would like you to meet “Rosie Goldberg.” She is our 7-year old golden retriever. (Yes, that is her real, registered AKC name. It seem logical to address my heritage.) Rosie and her step-brother Rodney Goldberg (age 8), are the only “children” we have at home now, with the others all gone off to college and grown up. About 4 weeks ago, Rosie, Rodney and I were playing ball in the backyard on a sunny, winter day. It was still a little cold, and the snow had just melted after being on the ground for 3 weeks or so. The ground was very uneven from the snow melt. Rodney is a real athlete, but Rosie is built more for comfort than speed. After Rodney chased the ball a dozen times or so, Rosie “went out for a pass,” as we call it. That is when she runs in a different direction than Rodney and waits for the ball to be thrown to her. It gives her a head start over Rodney, who is very competitive about getting the ball first. LOL – When Rose does get the ball, her size (she’s 3 inches taller and 15 pounds heavier) allows her to keep the ball away from Rodney until the point of frustration. When he bites her ankles she eventually gives the ball up. I am thinking she’d make a good running back. I threw the ball about 20 feet beyond Rose. She took a few steps towards the ball, stepped into low spot and let out a yelp. When I got to her and she was in obvious pain. What did I do? What any father does when a kid takes a digger: I rubbed where it hurt. She got up limping but seemed to be better almost immediately. However, this was short-lived and ever since that day she has had a pronounced limp. She never complains about the pain but the doctor says, “If she is limping, she has pain.” Rosie takes pain meds every day. The verdict is that she has a torn ligament and will require surgery. This surgery is around $7,000, or so I have been told. That is why we are having this sale. If you have been considering a product, now would be a great time to make a purchase.
