Most Players Concentrate on the Race Instead of the Handicapping Process.

Most players are interested in improving their results. But there is a problem: in order to improve your RESULTS you must actually concentrate on improving the HANDICAPPING PROCESS itself. In this short video Dave Schwartz will describe the four major steps that are essential for the complete handicapping process.
- Pick Contenders
- Handicap the Horses (assign probabilities, odds line, etc.)
- Determine the Value of the Horses
- Determine the Value of the Race
Dave always likes to say, “If it is working for you, keep doing what you’re doing. However, if it isn’t working for you, be open to change.”
If we consider the “pick-up-the-racing-form” handicapper, we often find a player that “reads” the past performances and jumps directly to step number three: determining the relative value of the horses in the race. This rarely works well.
Today, most players lament that the reason they lose is that they play too many races. They painstakingly look at each race without actually handicapping it to determine if the race has value. In other words, they trying to whittle down the races on their personal menu for the day WITHOUT ACTUALLY HANDICAPPING!
The problem is not that they PLAY too many races. The actual problem is that they tried to determine value before they handicap the race!
When questioned about this process they say that they only have a limited amount of time to “handicap.” The real problem is they do not have a streamlined handicapping process that takes all of these things into consideration.
The process itself does not have to be complex. Certainly, winning long-term is not ever as simple and easy as people would like it to be. Following the steps described in the video will help you to create your own process.
